Bingo. Which illustrates precisely the nature of government and taxes.

Tolerance, acquiescence, or marginal acceptance of a small amount of something, does not in itself justify or make acceptable more of the same.

Fire can be either an enemy or a friend, as can government. Both need support, care, and judicious feeding at intervals to perform their (limited) and intended function. Neither should be left unattended however, followed blindly – or over-fed.

Fire can warm you on a cold day, light the dark, dry your clothes, and cook your food. Turn it loose, let it become your master, and it will burn down your house and destroy your life – and perhaps those of the entire neighborhood.

….

Actually, I was the privilaged child of a long line of Robber Barons. I graduated (barely) with a degree in fraternization from Berkeley and Harvard, retired early at the age of 10, and now spend my days clipping coupons on the beach, drinking highballs, avoiding taxes, abusing the servants, and amusing myself by spreading misery and social injustice among the huddled proletareat.

Perhaps we’re neighbors.
